New landmark coming to Colonel Light Gardens

The work underway at Springbank Intersection will not only improve your safety and travel times when using these roads, but will also bring an exciting new landmark honouring Colonel Light Gardens' rich local heritage.

At a recent community information session, concept plans for an archway at Oxford Circus, Colonel Light Gardens, were revealed. The archway will be a significant new feature at the intersection, marking the entrance to the State Heritage Area listed suburb.

As someone who is committed to preserving Colonel Light Gardens' heritage and delivering tangible outcomes that strengthen this hertiage, I was a strong advocate for this addition.

I am pleased the Springbank Intersection upgrade has provided the opportunity to reflect the passion and pride local residents have for Colonel Light Gardens as a model garden suburb. A special thank you to the residents involved in helping to enhance the characteristics of Colonel Light Gardens and bringing to life Charles Reade’s vision for the suburb.

The next steps for the intersection upgrade are:

  • Completion of service relocations (expected December 2020)
  • Award of Construct Only contract (expected late 2020)
  • Commencement of construction (expected December 2020)
  • Opening to traffic (December 2021, weather permitting)

I look forward to keeping you updated as the project continues to progress.
